The Story Behind Vitality Tai Chi™
My journey with Tai Chi began long before I ever threw my first punch or balanced my first stance. It started in the quiet mornings of Guangzhou, watching my father move with effortless grace—rain or shine, summer or winter. For over 70 years, he practiced without fail, teaching me through silent example that true mastery isn’t about perfection, but persistence.
At 15, I stepped onto the path myself, learning the intricate Yang-style 108 and 85 forms under his watchful eye. Back then, a single session could take nearly an hour—sometimes flowing like water, other times feeling like an uphill climb. Life often got in the way, and like anyone juggling school, work, and responsibilities, I’d occasionally skip practice, telling myself, “I’ll make up for it tomorrow.”
Years later, as a father myself, I wanted to pass down this family treasure to my sons. But in their fast-paced lives—one in London, the other in New York—my teachings felt more like relics than revelations. They lifted weights, tracked macros, and dabbled in meditation, yet stress still clung to them. When I tried to share the forms and philosophy that meant so much to me, they admired my passion—but their eyes told me everything. To them, Tai Chi was a beautiful tradition, not a living tool.
That moment sparked a question in me: What if the very thing that made Tai Chi timeless was also what made it feel out of reach? Could its essence—energy cultivation, mindful movement, and quiet strength—be distilled into something that fits modern lives?
So I began experimenting. I studied biomechanics, stress physiology, and the neuroscience of movement. I tested, tweaked, and stripped away anything that didn’t serve a clear purpose—not to dilute Tai Chi, but to liberate it. The result was Vitality Tai Chi™: a science-backed practice that keeps the soul of the art while making it accessible, efficient, and—above all—alive for today’s world.
This isn’t just my legacy anymore.
It’s an invitation—to move better, breathe deeper, and reclaim the vitality that’s always been within us.
