Forging The Immortal Body: A Manual of Taoist Internal Cultivation and Biological Transformation (2026)
by Sifu Michael Johnson (Author) Format: Kindle Edition (April 2026)
Most martial artists train the outside. Muscle. Speed. Technique. They never touch the half that actually produces power.
This book covers the three internal arts that serious practitioners have heard of but few truly understand: Qigong, Shengong, and Neigong. Qigong for the breath and vital energy. Shengong for spirit and emotional ground. Neigong for restructuring the body from the inside out. These are not separate practices. They are three faces of the same work, and when trained together they produce a kind of power that external training alone cannot reach.
Written by Sifu Michael Johnson (Wei Lei Ma), an 8th Duan Grandmaster and 38th Generation Lineage Chief Inheritor of the Wei Family System, this is the result of over thirty-five years on the internal path. The men who trained beside him could not move at forty the way they moved at twenty. He could. That difference did not come from genetics or luck.
Inside you will find Dan Tian breathing methods, fascia spiral training, standing meditation progressions, bone washing and marrow cultivation, the Small and Large Heavenly Circuits, Five Element theory applied to real combat, Iron Shirt Qigong, Fa Jin (explosive internal power), partner training drills taught behind closed doors, and a complete first-three-years training map.
This is not philosophy. Every chapter includes practice instructions you can take to the floor tonight. If you have been training the outside and wondering why something still feels incomplete, this book is the missing half.
About the author:
Michael Johnson is an 8th Duan Grandmaster, 38th Generation Lineage Chief Inheritor of the Wei Family (衛) martial system, and U.S. Patriarch of the Wei Family Lineage. He holds the title of Zongshi and is a direct inheritor of Wei Tzu Jan Men and Emperor’s Longfist, preserving and transmitting a living tradition that stretches back centuries through an unbroken chain of masters. He is also a student of Professor Tony Maynard, founder and legend of American Combat Jujitsu, continuing to train across disciplines even as a senior practitioner and teacher in his own system.
His training background includes Iron Body, Light Body, and Iron Palm arts, reflecting the breadth of conditioning and internal methods passed down within the Wei Family curriculum.
Michael holds doctoral degrees in Metaphysics and Philosophy through independent study, bringing formal intellectual structure to a body of knowledge most practitioners can only access through oral transmission and years of hands-on training. His writing draws on both — the lived experience of decades in the training hall and the rigor of philosophical inquiry into the principles that underpin Chinese internal arts, Taoist cultivation, and the intersection of body, mind, and spirit.
He serves as the 3rd Generation Standing President of Cloud Forest Martial Arts Institute in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he trains students in Chinese martial arts, internal energy development, and the philosophical foundations of the Wei Family system. He operates the institute as a ministry, treating martial cultivation as a path of service rather than a commercial enterprise.
Michael identifies as both a committed Christian and a Taoist martial lineage holder, and much of his writing explores how those two traditions illuminate rather than contradict each other. His nonfiction gives readers access to training methods, cultivation frameworks, and philosophical perspectives that have historically been restricted to closed-door lineage transmission.
At its core, Michael writes because knowledge that stays in one generation dies with it. His books are written so that those who come after him have a clear path laid before them, a record of what was learned, what was practiced, and what was earned through years of discipline. Passing that down in written form is how he invests in the success of people he may never meet.
Through Cloud Forest Publishing, Michael has authored a growing catalog of works spanning martial science, Taoist internal alchemy, philosophy, theology, and fiction. His titles include Internal Martial Science, the Quiet Series (Quiet Guardians and Quiet Warriors), The Quantum Human series, Forging the Immortal Body, The Jade Dragon, The Alchemist’s Body, Between the Cross and the Way, and When Bowing Is Not Worship. He co-authored Dragon Seeks Path with Professor Rick Moneymaker. Cloud Forest Publishing also represents other authors and their works, including The Unseen Generation by Wei Shou Xin (upcoming 2026) and the God Bound series by Shaman J. Cross, Warden.
He lives and works in North Carolina with his wife and two daughters, where he continues to teach, write, and preserve the Wei Family legacy for the next generation.
