The 17th World Wushu Championships (September 2025)

The World Wushu Championships, hosted by the International Wushu Federation, is the highest level world-class event in the martial arts world. The World Wushu Championships generally include routines and free-sport. The contestants are selected from countries and regions around the world to form national teams and represent the highest competitive level of martial arts in the world. The first World Wushu Championships was held in Beijing, China in 1991, and has been held every two years since then. So far, fifteen World Wushu Championships have been held. During the World Wushu Championships, the International Wushu Federation Congress, professional committee meetings, and working group meetings are generally held.
The 17th World Wushu Championships will be held in Brasilia, Brazil from August 31 to September 7, 2025. The Brazilian Wushu Confederation, with the support of city of Brasilia, is responsible for organizing the 17th WWC under the auspices of the IWUF.
This will be the first time for the World Wushu Championships to be held in Latin America. Brazil has successfully held the 7th World Junior Wushu Championships in 2018 and Pan-America Wushu Championships in 2022. Brasilia is the capital of the country. The city is famous for its iconic modernist architecture, and it has been enlisted as a world heritage by the UNESCO in 2017.
The World Wushu Championships (WWC) is the official world championship event hosted by the IWUF. Those attending the WWC are treated to the highest competitive level within the sport of wushu, both for men’s and women’s Taolu and Sanda. First held in 1991, the WWC takes place biennially and is unquestionably the official pinnacle championships of the IWUF.
